Fernandez, the Canadian player ranked 24th, was unable to overcome Andreeva's performance in the opening set, which went to a tiebreak. Andreeva dominated the tiebreak 7-1 before closing out the match with a decisive second set.
The loss ends Fernandez's run at Madrid. Andreeva will face her next opponent in the semi-final stage of the tournament.
