Félix Auger-Aliassime has hired Ivan Ljubicic as his new coach, according to reporting from The Times. The move comes after the Montreal native ended his 10-year partnership with Frederic Fontang in July. Auger-Aliassime, 26, is currently ranked No. 5 in the world and sits 15th in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.
Who is Ivan Ljubicic?
Ljubicic is a former world No. 3 from Croatia with an established track record in elite coaching. The 47-year-old coached Roger Federer from 2016 until the Swiss legend's retirement in 2022, during which Federer won three Grand Slam titles following knee surgery. Ljubicic also previously coached Canadian Milos Raonic and has served as a special consultant to Gilles Moretton, president of the French Tennis Federation.
Why the coaching change now?
Auger-Aliassime has struggled in recent months, compiling a 35-17 record in 2026 overall but losing three of his last four ATP-level matches before the coaching announcement. The Canadian was eliminated in the second round at the US Open, and reached quarterfinals at Wimbledon and the French Open. His best Grand Slam results remain semifinal appearances at the US Open in 2021 and 2025. With the ATP Finals qualification window closing, Auger-Aliassime sought a fresh perspective to stabilize his ranking and performance.
What comes next?
Auger-Aliassime's next tournament is the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai, where he will continue his push to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals for the third time. Ljubicic will remain in his role with the French Tennis Federation while taking on the coaching position with Auger-Aliassime.
