Gabriel Diallo of Montreal reached the quarterfinals of the Eastbourne Open before falling to Britain's Jack Draper 6-1, 6-4 on Thursday. The Canadian's run at the ATP 250 grass-court event ended against Draper, who entered the tournament ranked No. 160 and advanced to the semifinals.
How Diallo reached the quarterfinals
Diallo defeated Argentina's Tomas Etcheverry 6-7(11), 6-3, 6-2 on Wednesday to advance to his first quarterfinal of the season. The Montreal player served decisively, recording 14 aces while saving the only break point he faced and converting 86 per cent of his first-service points. Etcheverry, the fourth seed, managed 10 aces but was broken three times on 12 opportunities. Diallo improved to 2-0 in head-to-head meetings with the Argentine.
What comes next
Draper will face sixth-seeded Ugo Humbert of France in the semifinals of the grass-court event. Diallo's quarterfinal exit marks the end of his campaign at Eastbourne, one of the tour's key grass-court tuneups ahead of Wimbledon.
Dabrowski advances in doubles
Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski and Brazil's Luisa Stefani advanced to the women's doubles semifinals with a 6-3, 7-6(5) victory over Japan's Miyu Kato and Uzbekistan's Kamilla Rakhimova. The top-seeded pair will next face Hungary's Fanny Stollar and Asia Muhammad of the United States.
