Rakhimova's serve and break-point conversion proved decisive. According to TSN, the Uzbek player converted five of 11 break points while Fernandez converted only two of four. Rakhimova also held a significant advantage on second-serve points, winning 63 per cent compared to Fernandez's 33 per cent. The match lasted two hours 32 minutes.

Fernandez arrived in Beijing on the back of her sixth career WTA title, which she claimed at the Singapore Open the week prior. The 24-year-old Canadian is ranked No. 26 in the world and was seeded 23rd at the China Open. Rakhimova, ranked No. 76, improved to four career wins over top-30 players with this victory, including an upset of Barbora Krejcikova in the first round of the U.S. Open five weeks earlier.
