Québécois Alexis Galarneau will not compete in the US Open main draw after losing to Dalibor Svrcina 7-6(3), 6-2 in the second qualifying round on Wednesday. The 27-year-old Canadian has now failed to advance through qualifying at every Grand Slam this season.
How the match unfolded
Galarneau began poorly, falling behind 4-1 before recovering to level the set at 4-4. Svrcina took the opening set in a tiebreak. In the second set, Galarneau was broken three times and could not mount a comeback, according to RDS.
What this means for Canadian representation
Galarneau's exit leaves Bianca Andreescu as Canada's remaining hope in the qualifying rounds at Flushing Meadows. Andreescu remains in contention to reach the main draw.
