Serena and Venus Williams have received a wild card into the 2026 Wimbledon women's doubles, reuniting the legendary sisters for their first Grand Slam appearance together since the 2022 US Open. The All England Club announced the pairing on Tuesday, June 16, ahead of the tournament's start on June 29.
Why the Williams sisters' Wimbledon return matters
The 44-year-old Serena is in the early stages of a comeback after nearly four years away from professional tennis. She made her return to competition this month at the Queen's Club Championships in London, where she won her opening doubles match alongside Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko before the partnership ended when Mboko suffered a knee injury in singles action. Wimbledon will mark Serena's first Grand Slam action since the 2022 US Open, where she "evolved away" from tennis before returning to competition this summer.
Their record at the All England Club
The Williams sisters have won six Wimbledon women's doubles titles together, tying them with Suzanne Lenglen and Elizabeth Ryan for the most by any pair at the tournament. Their first two titles came in 2000 and 2002 as wild cards, and their most recent victory was in 2016. Combined, the sisters have accumulated 21 trophies and medals at Wimbledon across singles, doubles, and Olympic gold medals, with their powerful serves proving most effective on grass.
Venus's recent activity
Venus, who turns 46 on Wednesday, has remained active in recent months, competing in both singles and doubles at the 2025 US Open and 2026 Australian Open. She reached the US Open women's doubles quarterfinals last summer alongside 2021 singles finalist Leylah Fernandez. Venus was also scheduled to play doubles at Roland Garros this year but withdrew when her partner Hailey Baptiste suffered a knee injury.
The Wimbledon women's doubles tournament begins on June 29. Neither sister has yet received a wild card into the singles draw, though one women's singles wild card slot remains available.
