Jannik Sinner has ended his 2026 season due to a knee injury, the world No. 1 confirmed on Tuesday via social media. The Italian said he and his medical team decided that treatment was the best course of action to protect his long-term career, according to the ATP Tour.
Why Sinner sat out the rest of the year
Sinner has not competed since winning his fifth Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in July. He subsequently withdrew from tournaments throughout the North American hard-court swing and the Asian swing, prioritising recovery over additional matches.
What Sinner accomplished before the injury
The 25-year-old won five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles earlier in 2026 at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome to complete the Career Golden Masters. He also recorded a career-best winning streak of 30 matches before falling to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round at Roland Garros, then rebounded to defeat Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final.
Sinner's record at the year-end championship
Sinner is the two-time reigning champion at the Nitto ATP Finals, where he did not drop a set across his runs in Turin in 2024 and 2025. He holds a 15-2 record at the year-end event, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
