Yuan Yue progressed to the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 Saint-Malo tournament after defeating Bianca Andreescu 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in the second round. Andreescu mounted a comeback in the second set but could not sustain the momentum through the third.
Yuan's serve proved decisive in the match. According to r/tennis, Yuan won 60 per cent of her second-serve points and converted four of six break-point opportunities. Andreescu struggled with her first serve, landing at only 50 per cent, and converted just two of eight break points.
Yuan will face the winner of the Céline Naef versus fifth-seeded Anna Blinkova quarterfinal matchup. Andreescu has no tournaments scheduled before French Open qualifying begins in three weeks.
