Second-seeded Alexander Zverev defeated 23rd-seeded Jiri Mensik 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3 in the Madrid Open quarter-finals on Tuesday, securing his place in the semi-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
Zverev claimed the first set comfortably before Mensik forced a tiebreak in the second. The Czech player pushed the set to 6-7(4) before Zverev converted the opportunity. Zverev then closed out the match decisively in the third set to advance.
The Madrid Open semi-finals will feature Zverev and the other advancing players from the quarter-final round.
